A bit about our completed projects
Repairing the school
Just before the 2024 rainy season it was discovered that a crack had appeared at the rear of Lovely Hearts academy. It was a real fear that without additional support the building may be irreparably damaged and could even collapse. We immediately put out a request for urgent donations and raised $300 to purchase the new soil and complete the repair. Both locals and the school children all joined in to complete the work within a few days and before the rainy season commenced.
Completing the garden
Lovely Hearts had received a donation to add a garden and a yoga area at the rear of the school but had unfortunately ran out of money. They estimated a further $400 was needed to add more soil, partially fill in a pond and add fencing to make it safe. At 6pm on the Friday evening we put out a request for donations and we woke Saturday morning to find our wonderful supporters had come up trumps again. The money was sent off to help them with that project.
Purchase of books and equipment
This is always ongoing. For Prey school with the funding of a new full time teacher so he wanted to change the curriculum, we purchased every student the New Headway 5th edition as well as teacher editions etc. When leaving Lovely Hearts we wanted to ensure they had enough supplies for the next six months so bought paper, pens, pencils, posters etc. It costs approximately $1000 a year to keep each school supplied with the latest educational material and all the other items necessary for the functioning of a good school.
Purchasing bikes
Many of the children at the schools we support travel many miles to get to school having first attending the state school. The best way we can help them with this is to buy the children bikes. One of our donors contacted us saying she had got an extra £200 and wondered how she could support us the best. We agreed the purchase of 4 bikes was a great use of the money. The bikes are all re-conditioned from Japan and have baskets, bells and are really practical and the children love them. We are sure to purchase many more in the future and the children absolutely love them.
